It isn't designed as a cure all, however without more knowledge of how you use your computer, the environment it's in or other things it's difficult to say if you machine is malfunctioning or acting normally. I have it on my iMac and rarely see my iMac go above 135 degrees F, when it does it's normally because I'm watching a movie or something. SMC Fan Control is designed to give you control over the speed of your fans. I don't have experience with CoolBook however if it's what I think it's designed for notebook computers to lay on not an iMac.
